At the insistence of Mayor Greg Nickels, the city council passed an ordinance last July that would regulate strip clubs out of business (bright lighting, no lap dances). Like all city legislation, the strip-club ordinance begins with one "whereas" statement. "Whereas, the operation of adult-entertainment businesses has historically and regularly been accompanied by secondary effects, including prostitution and other criminal behavior, that are detrimental to the public health, safety, and general welfare of the citizens of Seattle... be it ordained by the City of Seattle as follows..." ... |
